Campers explore elements of fantasy game and character design through virtual roleplaying. Each camper creates their own “avatar,” designs its fantasy world, and builds its costume and accessories. We will prototype these characters in miniature and create digital renderings. We will draw maps of our worlds and experiment with world-building.

Garden Dreamers (Morning, Ages 5-8)

Focusing on environmental science and sustainability, this camp introduces container gardening. We plant our own seeds, keep track of progress with a gardening notebook, learn about water filtration and helpful pollinators, and build garden projects like cold frames and worm hotels!

Summer Storytellers (Morning, Ages 5-8)

Calendar Jul 21, 2021 at 9 am, runs for 1 week

Campers create their own notebooks and sketchbooks for telling stories. Through a series of prompts, we explore flash fiction and visual storytelling through comics. Campers will have the opportunity to print and distribute their own small magazines or “zines.”

DIY Woodworking and Building (Morning, Ages 5-8)

Calendar Aug 4, 2021 at 9 am, runs for 1 week

Teaching artists help campers work safely with hand-powered drills, saws, and attachment materials to create functional and unique projects out of wood. Some collaborative projects will stay in our backyard garden and individual projects will go home with campers.

Music Makers (Morning, Ages 5-8)

Campers build their own percussion and string instruments using recyclable materials and gain a basic understanding of the fundamentals of music. Each camper designs and annotates their own “sound walk” of a local neighborhood. Use Makey Makey microcontrollers to turn ordinary items into piano or keyboard keys.
