Afternoon Camps (Ages 9-12)

Fashion and Fiber Arts (Afternoon, Ages 9-12)

Free

with Melissa Rogers

Calendar Jun 9, 2021 , runs for 1 week

Campers use dye and paint to transform a plain T-shirt into their own wearable art. We practice basic hand sewing techniques and explore a variety of embroidery stitches to make patches for adorning jackets or backpacks. Each camper does a “deep dive” into a culminating fiber arts practice of their choice: weaving, sewing with nontraditional materials, or altering an existing garment.

Choose Your Own Adventure (Afternoon, Ages 9-12)

Free

with Melissa Rogers

Calendar Jun 23, 2021

Campers explore elements of fantasy game and character design through virtual roleplaying. Each camper creates their own “avatar,” designs its fantasy world, and builds its costume and accessories. We will prototype these characters in miniature and create digital renderings. We will draw maps of our worlds and experiment with world-building.

Garden Dreamers (Afternoon, Ages 9-12)

Free

with Melissa Rogers

Calendar Jul 7, 2021 , runs for 1 week

Focusing on environmental science and sustainability, this camp introduces container gardening. We plant our own seeds, keep track of progress with a gardening notebook, learn about water filtration and helpful pollinators, and build garden projects like cold frames and worm hotels!

Summer Storytellers (Afternoon, Ages 9-12)

Free

with Melissa Rogers

Calendar Jul 21, 2021 , runs for 1 week

Campers create their own notebooks and sketchbooks for telling stories. Through a series of prompts, we explore flash fiction and visual storytelling through comics. Campers will have the opportunity to print and distribute their own small magazines or “zines.”

DIY Woodworking and Building (Afternoon, Ages 9-12)

Free

with Melissa Rogers

Calendar Aug 4, 2021 , runs for 1 week

Teaching artists help campers work safely with hand-powered drills, saws, and attachment materials to create functional and unique projects out of wood. Some collaborative projects will stay in our backyard garden and individual projects will go home with campers.

Music Makers (Afternoon, Ages 9-12)

Free

with Melissa Rogers

Calendar Aug 18, 2021

Campers build their own percussion and string instruments using recyclable materials and gain a basic understanding of the fundamentals of music. Each camper designs and annotates their own “sound walk” of a local neighborhood. Use Makey Makey microcontrollers to turn ordinary items into piano or keyboard keys.
